Gregorio Botta (Naples, 1953)

artist of Roman adoption, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome where he attended the courses of T. Scialoja. After his first solo show at Segno gallery, Rome, 1991, he received great attention from critics on the occasion of various exhibitions, such as Trasparenze dell’arte italiana sulla via della seta, curated by A. Bonito Oliva, Beijing, 1993; XII Quadriennale di Roma, Rome, 1996; Biennale dei Parchi, National Gallery of Modern Art, Rome, 1998. A research on encaustic introduces Botta to wax, a material that will mark his work for a long period. This initial love then led him to create works with glass, lead, iron, and with natural elements such as fire, water, air. The art of drawing with light and transparency allows him to create increasingly rarefied works that emphasize an art of taking away, on the edge of visibility. It is a research of radical essentiality both in the elements and in the forms.

His works belong to important private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, MAXXI, Macro, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome; Madre, Naples; Mart, Rovereto; Musma, Matera; European Community Bank, Frankfurt; Philip Morris, New York, FRAC, Alsace.

Studio G7 dedicated to the artist the solo shows La forma dell'acqua, 2010; A cosa aspira l'acqua, 2017; Breathe Out, 2021.
