Marilisa Cosello (Salerno, 1978)

lives and works in Milan. She graduated in Visual Arts in the UK, then she got a University Degree in History of Cinema in Milan, and later a Master in Photography at Noorderlicht School. She studied with F. Cheval and L. Panaro.

She worked as news photographer for five years, then she developed an artistic contemporary practice using a conceptual approach. Cosello’s research activates a dialogue between history, culture and social structures; referring to the Society as a Family and the Private as Collective, her photographs, performances and videos focus on universal an individual themes and on political power within social and family structures. The artist exploits the body and the society's archetypes to articulate political ideas, personal struggles, women issues and the society's expectations.

Her works are displayed in Italy and abroad at important institutions and events, including: M9 Museum, Mestre; Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, Frankfurt; Mediterranean Biennial of Contemporary Art, Sarajevo; Circulations Festival, Paris; Central Dupon, Paris; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome; Museum of Santa Giulia, Brescia; Kunsthalle, Lana; European Photography, Reggio Emilia; Francesco Fabbri Foundation, Pieve di Soligo; Centrale Fotografia, Fano.
She wins the European Photography Award and the Lugano Photo Festival; she receives honorable mention at PhotoEspagna, Descubrimientos Braga, and Berlin Photo Festival. In 2022 she wins Premio Galleria in the occasion of Combat Prize. Her works are included in important public and private collections.
